Chez Mumtaj specialises in modern French-Asian cuisine. It was judged 'Restaurant of the Year' at the Retailer of the Year Awards 2011, and was awarded an AA Rosette for culinary excellence in March 2009. It offer pre-dinner drinks in the Saffron Lounge and champagne bar, which has its own Asian Tapas menu.  A set lunch menu and tasting dinner menu are available. Sample menus are on the website.

If you care about the source and the quality of your food, and you like to dine in a relaxed, informal and stylish environment then try Lussmanns. This award-winning brasserie was described by The Times critic Giles Coren as 'everything a modern local restaurant should be' - overall dining score 8/10. 

Lussmanns champions the best British welfare-driven suppliers and uses carefully sourced ingredients including free-range Label Anglais chicken, grass-fed beef, outdoor-reared pork and sustainable fish (see their website for supplier details). They even serve English juices, beers and ciders. Choose from house, set lunch and a daily 12-7pm set menus, with changing monthly specials. Children are welcome and can choose from a 'Lussmanns Junior' menu. Lussmanns also has restaurants in nearby Harpenden, Hertford and Hitchin.

Lussmanns has been recommended by The Good Food Guide since 2010 and won Best Local Restaurant at the St Albans Food & Drink Awards four times in the same period. In 2014 and 2015 they won 'UK Sustainable Small Restaurant Group of the Year' at the Sustainable Restaurant Association (SRA) Awards. In 2013 they were double runners-up for 'Best Ethical Restaurant' and 'Best Cheap Eats' in the Observer Food Monthly Awards. In 2011 and 2012, they won the coveted RSPCA Independent Restaurant Good Business Award and a Green Apple Award for environmental best practice. They also hold the SRA's highest rating - Three Star Sustainability Champion status - and fish2fork's highest 4.5 blue fish rating.

The Lake Restaurant at St Michael's Manor Hotel, run by Restaurant Manager Fabrice Guieu, serves award winning Modern British cuisine created by Head Chef Daniel Park in an elegant and tranquil dining room with its own conservatory overlooking the hotel's private garden and lake. The restaurant has a fixed price two or three course 'Lake Menu' which changes weekly and is sourced from local suppliers. Also on offer are à la carte and Sunday lunch menus. Three different varieties of afternoon tea are served in the hotel lounge or on the terrace (weather permitting). Note: The brasserie-style fixed price Lake Menu is not available on Saturday evening or Sunday lunchtime.
