The 30th St Albans International Organ Festival

The internationally renowned St Albans International Organ Festival is preparing to welcome visitors to St Albans from all around the world in July – celebrating organ music and much more.

This will be the thirtieth Festival, and its two-week programme will take place across St Albans between 9 and 20 July.

Highlights will include:

  • Howard Blake 80th Birthday Concert: The Academy of St Martin in the Fields and St Albans Bach Choir perform an all-Blake programme centred around his dramatic oratorio Benedictus, and the premiere of a new a capella arrangement of Walking in the Air
  • Three Choirs Concert: The combined Boys’, Girls’, Men’s and Women’s Choirs of St Albans Cathedral, Jesus College Cambridge and Salisbury Cathedral
  • Rachel Podger headlines a series of late-night Concerts by Candlelight; plus David Hill and David Ponsford harpsichord duo, and the Choir of King’s College London
  • Simon Callow and Carducci String Quartet: The award-winning actor reads TS Eliot’s Four Quartets, interspersed with Beethoven’s late opus 132 string quartet
  • Concerto Final: James O’Donnell directs St James’ Baroque in works by Handel including Concertos performed by our three Interpretation Competition finalists
  • Catherine Wyn-Rogers: best-loved English songs, performed by one of our leading singers
  • Il Pegaso: Leading Italian early music ensemble present recently discovered works by Monteverdi and Frescobaldi The Cabinet of Dr Caligari: Organ and live electronics to the classic German silent film of 1920
  • Bach Corners: Lunchtime concerts by outstanding young organists
  • Plus jury recitals, the ever-popular art exhibition, jazz at Lussmann’s and more, all centred around arguably the world’s leading organ competition.
