Good but not great - review by marmitemaisie
Service here is friendly but hit and miss and at times slow. Have had to chase up the bill twice on the last visit. On the MandS restaurant downstairs had a bad breakfast (cold, wrong etc) and although I complained to head office I didn't even get a response and that was after ringing them to check they had received it. Most unlike MandS but have always eaten upstairs since (mostly mid morning or lunchtime) and food has always been tasty. Recommend the Berry Pancake to share as a dessert if your nearly full. Right place right time - review by rnk

This restaurant was in the right place at the right time, and was much better than the usual shopping centre caff. Friendly service, and the food arrived within 15 minutes, which is important when it's clearly a 'pitstop' rather than a 'destination' venue. I had bangers and mash, and my wife chose a beefburger. Both were ever so slightly burned but otherwise rather tasty. Just what you need for a quick refuel after a day at work and ahead of an hour of frenzied Christmas shopping... [Nov 08]

Not just a restaurant - an M and S restaurant! - review by always about!

When I think of food and Marks and Spencer one word springs to mind – quality. So proper table service from M and S has a lot of expectation riding on it and I have to say it doesn’t disappoint…

First impressions of our visit to the new restaurant at the London Colney retail metropolis were all positive. We were shown to our table by polite, smiling staff. We marvelled at the clean lines and décor of the main dining room. We were even impressed with the simplicity and diversity of the reasonably priced menu.

The food followed quickly despite it being a busy Saturday afternoon and it was just as we hoped it would be: The salmon nicoise salad was delicious without being too greasy and the aberdeen angus burger and chips looked and tasted like something straight out of an ad. Not so well received was the chicken caesar salad – tasty ingredients but jumbo crutons – not a problem if you’ve got a large gob, but my wife hasn’t! Kids were well catered for with a reasonably priced menu just for them (high chairs are also available).

The only (tiny) annoyance was the stream of shoppers wandering past us (we were seated near the entrance) looking for a table and not expecting table service - and if you’re in hurry and after a quick coffee maybe this isn’t the place for you. Minor grumbles aside M and S have really hit the spot with this new style restaurant and as word spreads I imagine it will be harder and harder to get a table even if you could book. Well worth braving the car park for a visit for lunch or high tea (with cakes on doily stands) even if you’re not in the mood for shopping. [Oct 08]
